Albert II - King of the Belgians
King Boudewijn died on 31 July 1993 in Motril, Spain. His brother Albert succeeded him to the Belgian throne, becoming the sixth King of the Belgians in the process.
Albert II married Donna Paola Ruffo di Calabria from Italy on 2 July 1959. The latest Belgian Royal couple have two sons and one daughter ;

Princess Astrid is married to Archduke Lorenz of Austria-Este. They have 5 children ; Prince Amedeo (born 21 February 1986), Princess Maria Laura (born 26 August 1988), Prince Joachim (born 9 December 1991), Princess Luisa Maria (born 11 October 1995). and Princess Laetitia Maria (23 april 2003).

King Albert II was born on 6 June 1934 in Brussels. He is the son of King Leopold III and Queen Astrid (born Princess of Sweden) and the grandson of King Albert I and Queen Elisabeth. When he was Prince of Liege, he often accompanied Belgian politicians at official foreign visits at the request of the Belgian government. Due to his ex-capacity of Vice-Admiral of the Belgian Navy, he has an obvious interest in maritime issues. He is very interested in the problems faced by Belgian ports and has a special interest in Belgium's excellent export record and the environment.

Before becoming King, he undertook more than 90 foreign visits, most with the aim of encouraging foreign investment in Belgium and finding export opportunities for small to medium companies in his home country. He was Chairman of the ASLK, a Belgian bank, between 1954 and 1992. Since 1958, he has been Chairman of the Belgian Red Cross. He is Honorary Chairman of the Belgian Olympic Committee and has been presenting the yearly National Award for Services to Sport for more than 30 years. In 1984, the Prince Albert Fund was started. This fund is used to promote and deliver the education of export specialists and was created in recognition of the role Albert had played in this area over a period of more than 25 years.
